Low Power VLSI CMOS Design An Image Processing Chip for RGB to HSI Conversion

چکیده
Up until recently performance parameters such as area and speed were the important key factors in the design of integrated circuits. With the introduction of smaller technologies these objectives were more easily achieved. However, increasing integration and higher clock speeds has moved power dissipation to the forefront of design challenges facing today's chip designers. By implementing low power structures from the first stages of the design cycle expensive cooling techniques and packaging can be avoided, even when implementing fast real time image processing algorithms. Most research towards low power design has been done at the lower levels of the disign hierarchy. However, the field of high level or architectural level low power design is likely to be of increasing significance. The aim of this project is to demonstrate that the use of low power strategies at the initial stages of the design development cycle will lead to a significantly reduced power consumption in the final chip.

Algorithmic Level Low-Power VLSI Design Applied to the RGB to HSI Conversion
In the early 90s the first portable computing applications became widely available. At this time, lower performance than the mains dependant counterparts was accepted. However, today user demand small lightweight portable systems with long battery operating times without any compromise in computing performance. To meet these customer demands, a consequent low power approach has to be taken star...
متن کاملFocal-Plane and Multiple Chip VLSI Approaches to CNNs
In this paper, three alternative VLSI analog implementations of CNNs are described, which have been devised to perform image processing and vision tasks: a programmable low-power CNN with embedded photosensors, a compact fixed-template CNN based on unipolar current-mode signals, and basic CMOS circuits to implement an extended CNN model using spikes. The first two VLSI approaches are intended f...

متن کاملReduction of coupling effects by optimizing the 3-D configuration of the routing grid
In this brief, we propose a new physical design technique for a subquarter micrometer system-on-a-chip (SoC). By optimizing the individual layer’s routing grid space, coupling effects such as crosstalk noise, crosstalk-induced delay variations, and coupling power consumption are almost eliminated with little runtime penalty. Experiments are performed on the design of an image processing circuit...
متن کاملSwitched-capacitor Dc-dc Converters for Low-power On-chip Applications
The paper describes switched-capacitor dc-dc converters (charge pumps) suitable for on-chip, low-power applications. The proposed configurations are based on connecting two identical but opposite-phase SC converters in parallel, thus eliminating the need for separate bootstrap gate drivers. We focus on emerging very low-power VLSI applications such as batterypowered or self-powered signal proce...
